-WARNING AN UNPOPULAR OPINION IS ABOUT TO BE SHARED-

I don’t like Resident Evil very much.

Like, the games AND the movies. That includes those CG movies, too.

I’m sure that I’m talking to nobody now. Because many people have just closed this browser and deleted their history as to not hear about a view that is SUPER WRONG.

(Since I’m already SUPER WRONG, I’ll continue with being SUPER WRONG.)

It IS a really cool series, and its been very impactful in shaping the themes of survival horror. This much is absolutely true.

But the execution of it. Thats where my interest goes down all the way.

More specifically, I’m talking about Umbrella: the corporation responsible for all the zombies, monsters, and mutants in the series. I have the exact same problem with the cult in Silent Hill.

Because once you have this shady group in every game after the originals, it begins to look like you don’t actually have any other ideas to work with.

I imagine its something along the lines of:

Game Director

(on the telephone/on a Skype call)

Okay, guys. That was really interesting and made a fun game all around, but lets do something else.

DOUCHE BAG PUBLISHERS

“MONEY MONEY CONTRACTS MONEY PANDERING MONEY MONEY.”

GD

Or not, I guess… We’re still going with the Umbrella/cult route?

DBP

“MONEY MONEY FUCK YOU MONEY MONEY DO WHAT WE WANT MONEY.”

GD

“S-Sounds good…”

DBP

“MONEY MONEY ALSO USE OLD ASSETS FROM PREVIOUS INSTALLMENTS MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY- “

(GD hangs up)

I’m not exaggerating. Probably. Maybe. I might be. Or probably not. I’m right.

Regardless, I’m the kind of person where I’m like:

Every new installment of your series afterward should be its own new thing but keep with the spirit of the original.

It sounds impossible. I know. But a GOOD writer/author/artist should be able to pull it off without a hitch.
